This work explores one of the most critical yet under-investigated aspects of sustainable composite structures: the influence of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) on the longitudinal shear performance of steel–concrete composite slabs, which represents one of the governing and most critical failure mechanisms in such systems. Through a systematic review of the available literature, the paper identifies key knowledge gaps and outlines a roadmap for future research and design methodologies.Particular attention is given to the applicability and limitations of current Eurocode-based design approaches, highlighting the need for a physical reinterpretation of longitudinal shear parameters when recycled aggregates are used.
