📢On 20 February 2026, the SARCOS project (PRIN 2022 – Steel And Recycled COncrete Slab) will host a dedicated conference in Cagliari, focused on advancing the scientific and design foundations for the integration of recycled aggregates into steel–concrete composite slabs. The objective of the SARCOS project is clear: to reduce the consumption of natural aggregates, enhance material circularity, and provide robust technical tools to support a concrete transition toward more sustainable construction practices. During the conference, the main outcomes of the project will be presented, including results from full-scale experimental testing, advanced numerical modelling, and durability studies, together with an updated overview of the availability of recycled aggregates in the Sardinian regional context.

Speakers from University of Cagliari (UNICA), Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), and Sapienza University of Rome will provide a comprehensive overview of the topic, addressing: • Structural behaviour of steel–concrete composite slabs • Design criteria for composite slabs incorporating recycled aggregates • Durability performance of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) • Availability and characterization of recycled aggregates at the regional scale • Shear capacity of reinforced concrete elements with different aggregate types and loading conditions
This event is intended for researchers, practitioners, construction companies, and public authorities interested in sustainable construction materials and innovation in composite structural systems.
